CVM’s Beloved Mini Horse Is a Big Red Star What Does Cornell Mean to You—In Five Words or Less? On a Festive Weekend, Homecoming Was Back—and Better than Ever The Cornellians staff can’t wait to see you at the annual Homecoming celebration, set for the last weekend in September! By Joe Wilensky Following a smashingly successful post-pandemic return in 2022, Homecoming 2023 is poised to welcome thousands back to campus amid a sea of Big Red spirit on September 29–30. Free events like the fireworks and laser light show are once again on tap, and tickets are available for favorites like the Big Red football game (vs. Colgate), the Glee Club and Chorus concert, and the Cornell Concert Commission show. And most excitingly for us: Cornellians staff will be again hosting a treat-laden table at the Big Red Fan Festival on Saturday—and we can’t wait to meet many more of our readers! Step right up: Carnival games at the 2022 Fan Fest. (Jason Koski / Cornell University) Following last year’s wildly popular activity—“What Does Cornell Mean to You, In Five Words or Less?”—we’ll be asking alumni and students to wield a Sharpie in response to a new prompt: “What Makes Cornell Feel Like Home to You?” Participants will be rewarded with what promises to be the weekend’s hottest swag: gray-and-red-striped, Cornellians-branded knit caps, as well as Frisbees. (Come early; they’ll go fast!) Stories You May Like Minnie to the Max! CVM’s Beloved Mini Horse Is a Big Red Star What Does Cornell Mean to You—In Five Words or Less? We’ll be asking alumni, “What Makes Cornell Feel Like Home to You?” And stop by our adjacent video booth to record your response—which may be featured in our story coverage! Other Homecoming highlights include appearances by the Big Red Marching Band and Touchdown—not to mention the rare opportunity to take a selfie with campus celebrity Minnie the miniature horse (at the Fan Fest, held in the Crescent Lot next to Schoellkopf). And of course, there’s the chance meet and reconnect with old friends, ingest some Cornell Dairy ice cream, and soak up what will (hopefully) be gorgeous early fall weather on the Hill. We got hundreds of responses to our “Cornell in Five” exercise at Homecoming 2022—and this year, we’re hoping for even more! (Lindsay France / Cornell University) The weekend will also feature myriad other activities, including an alumni golf outing; Big Red soccer, volleyball, and ice hockey games; the Schwartz Cup rowing race on the inlet; and various open houses, receptions, tours, and more. My mother was an avid gardener, and since we lived on a farm, she thought that Cornell would be heaven on earth. When I picked Cornell over Yale and Brown, my mother was delighted. A generation later, when both of my children picked Cornell, I was able to feel the pride in my children that my mother had felt in me. I come to campus at every opportunity. It is truly my happy place. Reply Leave a Comment Cancel replyOnce your comment is approved, your email address will not be published.
