This year’s burst will run from November 1 through December 5, 2024, and over half the teams this year represent engineering projects.
Cornell Seismic Design Team
“Being part of the Cornell Seismic Design Team has been amazing because it gives us a chance to learn and do something meaningful while working with a tight knit community. We’re not just learning from textbooks—we’re working together to design structures that can stand up to real earthquakes, preparing for things that could actually save lives. Being able to work on such a complex and impactful challenge with an amazing group of talented, hardworking, and ambitious students is truly an incredible experience.” —Harsh Patel ’26
Teams making their debut this year include (among others):
Quantum Computing Association, which expands opportunities for students to explore and innovate in cutting-edge research projects in quantum simulation, hardware, and algorithms
Sloan Forward Fund, which helps to offset costs for Masters in Health Administration students to attend professional conferences, empowering them to become the next generation of healthcare leaders
Philanthropic Leadership, which empowers students to make real grants to Tompkins County nonprofit organizations as part of an immersive, engaged learning experience about the importance of philanthropy
CU Wind Symphony
“Our collaboration tour to Cuba was a life-changing experience. Working alongside talented Cuban musicians who share our passion for music was incredibly inspiring. Witnessing the deep appreciation the Cuban people have for music reminded us of its power to connect and uplift, leaving us with a renewed sense of purpose and unity.” —Gabrielle Garra ’26, President of CU Wind Symphony
The bridge constructed by Cornell Engineers in Action in Eswatini.
“As a young African woman, it was incredibly meaningful to set an example for the children of Matfunini—to show them that they, too, can lead projects that bring positive change to their communities. I hope that by seeing someone who reflects them in both background and ambition, they feel empowered to dream big and pursue their goals without limits. With your support, we can continue creating a lasting legacy.” —Abbie Jobe ’26, Cornell Engineers in Action assistant project manager
