Are You a Super Taster? Wine Tasting Class

Do you hate the taste of dark chocolate, or dark roasted coffee, or kale? Would you never order a dry red wine? You could be a super taster! Join us to enlighten and heighten your flavor experience through an interactive and educational wine class. Your class includes:

• A reception featuring hors d’oeuvres specially crafted for super taster or non-taster flavors.
• An expert lesson by Professor LaTour on her research and how being a super taster (or not) influences your likes and dislikes.
• A taste test to find out if you’re a super taster, or not!
• A tasting of 5 wines, all selected to help you understand your personal palette.

About Kathy LaTour:
Kathy LaTour is an Associate Professor of Services Marketing and Banfi Vintners Professor of Wine Education and Management at the School of Hotel Administration, S.C. Johnson College of Business, Cornell University. She is an expert in the area of marketing hedonic experiences, with a particular focus on wine and gambling.

Kathy’s research takes a consumer psychological perspective toward how marketers should approach branding, experience design, communications, and loyalty programs.  She uses both experimental designs and in-depth interview techniques to better understand consumer behavior, fusing macro cultural and micro psychological dimensions to her research. Her major research focus has been on the complexity of human memory.  

Kathy’s current emphasis is on the wine industry, for course development for her wine marketing class, outreach to the Finger Lakes region, and academic research stream on how to develop taste expertise. As a means to better understand the nature of expertise, she began her own wine knowledge journey– in 2011 she received her certified sommelier diploma from the International Sommelier Guild, her sommelier certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers, Certified Wine Specialist recognition from the Society of Wine Educators. She has published research on supertasters and has also developed different tasting tools to help consumers better understand and remember their taste experiences.
