Event Details

Our annual summer get-together will be held on August 1 from 5 to 7 pm at Doten Farm in Plymouth’s historic and scenic Chiltonville neighborhood—only ten minutes from the Sagamore Bridge. Bring your favorite beverage; we’ll provide the burgers, veggie burgers, and hot dogs, plus salads and dessert!

The original farmhouse was built in 1740, near to Plimoth Patuxet (formerly known as Plimoth Plantation), and only a little more than a century after the Pilgrims arrived. It was built for Edward Doten, a descendant of Edward Doty who has been identified as one of two “servants” to Stephen and Elizabeth Hopkins. They and their four children were among the first permanent European settlers in the area, having arrived on the Mayflower in 1620. (In fact, one of the Hopkins family daughters was born during the journey aboard the Mayflower and, fittingly, named Oceanus.)

The main farmhouse now is the home of Frank Creedon ’81, who has graciously offered to host our gathering and show us around! Much of the property on Doten Road was part of the original farm, and several of the farm’s outbuildings remain, including its barn and caretaker’s cottage.

If you are driving to the event it is advised to come through the Pinehills (old exit 3), to Pinehills Drive, to Stonebridge Road, and then to Old Sandwich Road, which runs parallel to Doten Road for the last mile before its intersection with Clifford Road.   It’s the most scenic — and direct — approach to the venue location.
