Love, is it the greatest mystery in the universe, or can science solve the riddle of the heart? Join us for an introduction to relationship science with Dr. Marisa T. Cohen ’06, Assistant Professor of Psychology at St. Francis College in Brooklyn and the co-founder of the Self-Awareness and Bonding Lab!

Relationship science is a hot topic in popular psychology, and draws from a wide range of subject areas such as psychology, biology, and sociology. Multiple perspectives converge to help determine what leads some relationships to flourish, while others are doomed to fail. Relationship science has not only established itself as a science in the last half-century, but has also effectively generated a plethora of research aimed to determine the underpinnings of universal human experiences such as attraction and love. In this talk, you’ll learn about:

•    determining who is in our potential dating pool and the factors that may come into play
•    the importance of first date interactions
•    what leads to long-lasting and fulfilling relationships
•    the truth behind common relationship misconceptions
•    tips from relationship research to apply to your own love life

About Dr. Cohen: Dr. Marisa T. Cohen obtained a B.S. in Biology and Society from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, with a concentration in Learning, Development, and Instruction from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychology at St. Francis College in Brooklyn and the co-founder of the Self-Awareness and Bonding Lab (SABL). Her research focuses on peoples’ perceptions of love and infidelity. In addition, Dr. Cohen is the author of  From First Kiss to Forever: A Scientific Approach to Love, a book that relates relationship science research to everyday experiences and real relationship issues confronted by couples.
