Join local alumni at the Chicago Steel hockey game against the Madison Capitals. Puck drops at 3:05 pm. This event is open for all, alumni, family, and friends are all welcome! Before the game, we will have an opportunity to hear from Chicago Steel GM and Head Coach, Mike Garman ’12, a former standout netminder for your own Cornell University Big Red. Want to skate with Steel players after a game? Join in the fun in a post-game Skate with the Steel. Bring your own skates or rent for $5.

Mike Garman is the 14th head coach in Steel history. From 2017-2021, Garman served as an Assistant Coach and was named Associate Head Coach prior to the 2020-2021 season. He helped lead the team to Eastern Conference titles in 2019 and 2021, Anderson Cup titles in 2020 and 2021 and a Clark Cup championship in 2021. Garman was promoted to the role of General Manager after former Steel GM Ryan Hardy was hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs following the 2020-2021 season.

If you are interested in participating in the pre-game event with Coach Garman, be sure to arrive arrive by 2:15 pm just outside the Box Office. Once we all gather, we will be escorted to the meet and greet with Coach Garman (from 2:30 to 2:45 pm).

The United States Hockey League (USHL) is the nation’s only Tier 1 junior hockey league. Players ranging from 16 to 20 years old make up the rosters of the League’s 16 Member Clubs. The USHL had 57 players selected in the 2022 NHL Draft and more than 300 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent. Additional Steel alumni who have played for Cornell University include Connor Murphy ’20, Jeff Kubiak ’17, Topher Scott ’08, and current starting goalie, Ian Shane ’25. Current Chicago Steel player Charlie Major, from Skaneateles, NY has committed to play for Cornell University.
