“Propaganda and the People  — the rise of the Nazis and their use of propaganda throughout their time in power.”

About the lecture: Perhaps the biggest misconception about Nazi Germany is that the Nazi party came to power in a landslide victory with an overwhelming wave of public support. This talk will look at the conditions of Germany in the 1920s and 1930s that made the Nazism possible. It will explore the propaganda used by the Nazis to gain and sustain the support of the people for their new vison of Germany.

About the speaker: Dr. Shelly M. Cline, Ph.D. is the Historian and Director of Education at the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education in Overland Park, KS. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. Her research focuses on the SS Aufseherinnen in the concentration camp system and the gendered perpetration of the Holocaust. Her research has been supported by grants from the University of Kansas and the Universität Hamburg. She has presented at national and international conferences. Dr. Cline has been an instructor in KU’s Humanities Program and their Jewish Studies Program, and she has also served on the faculties of the Kansas City Art Institute and the University of Missouri Kansas City.
