Cornell Club of Greater Buffalo Dinner, Speaker and Annual Meeting Featuring Cornell faculty speaker Frank Rossi, Ph.D. presenting On Our Turf, it’s Always “Greener” – How Professional Sports Benefits from Cornell University Turfgrass Science.

This event will include a brief annual meeting that will include election of board members and a report of the year’s activities before the guest speaker’s presentation.

This summer’s Olympic Golf Course in Rio de Janeiro will feature extraordinary greens, thanks to lead turf consultant Frank Rossi, Ph.D. Often called “Turf Guy,” Rossi was named one of the “40 most influential people in the golf industry under 40” by Golfweek Magazine for his work maximizing turfgrass performance while emphasizing the preservation of environmental quality. Join us for a fascinating and informative look at how Rossi’s research at Cornell is being applied to keep the grass green in more ways than one.

Frank S. Rossi, Ph.D. is a professor in the School of Integrative Plant Science at Cornell University where he teaches horticultural science courses, conducts research, and directs extension programs focused on maximizing turfgrass performance while preserving environmental quality. Most recently he has published two new websites, Best Management Practices to Protect Water Quality on Golf Courses and Investing in Safe Sports Fields, as well as a Lawn Care iBook, and co-authored the 5th Edition of Turfgrass Science and Management with his Mentor Professor Bob Emmons. Frank has been recognized as among the most influential people in the turf and green industries on several occasions in his career by publications such as Golfweek and SportsTurf Magazine. He was awarded the 2012 Environmental Communicator of the Year by the Communication Association of the Green Industry. Frank has served as lead turf consultant for NYC’s Central Park, the New York Yankees, the 2002 and 2009 US Open Golf Championships at Bethpage Black, and currently for the 2016 Olympic Golf Course in Rio de Janeiro with fellow Cornellian Gil Hanse.

In addition to his career in turf, Frank is married and the father of three children, Past-President of his local school board and a Gentleman Farmer specializing in pasture raised alpaca, pigs, and poultry.
