Co-Founder Emelyn Northway ’07 will share her story on how she started a clothing company that’s redefining professional wardrobes everywhere. From realizing your passion for an idea, to taking big risks, to building a business from the ground up, Emelyn will impart what she’s learned thus far as a young entrepreneur. Plus, learn the ins and outs of dressing professionally without sacrificing style via live fashion demonstrations, featuring looks directly from the Of Mercer collection.

About the speakers:


Emelyn Northway ’07 (Arts & Sciences) is the co-founder of Of Mercer, a brand of stylish, desk-to-dinner careerwear for women.  She started the company in 2013 after she struggled to find fashionable, affordable, and quality work clothes while working in finance in NYC.  Since launching online in 2013, Of Mercer has been featured in publications including The New York Times, Forbes and Refinery29, and recently opened its first brick and mortar store in the Flatiron.  Emelyn studied economics and psychology while at Cornell and received her MBA from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania. 

 

Verneda Adele White ’05 (Human Ecology) is the founder and creative director of HUMAN INTONATION, the premium, charity-driven apparel brand dedicated to raising awareness while donating 20 percent of each sale to today’s pertinent social & human rights issues. Her national platform of using fashion for social change extends to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, education for children in Darfur, rebuilding Haiti, and HIV/AIDS prevention, testing and treatment. In addition to her work as a social entrepreneur, Verneda is an independent Consultant, Event Director. She is a blog writer for The Huffington Post, and the recipient of the Daily Points of Light Award from President George H.W. Bush for her innovation in service. Since graduating from Cornell, Verneda has lived in London, UK, and Hong Kong, CH and now resides in New York City.
