Maxine Bernstein, a reporter for The Oregonian/OregonLive, will discuss her law enforcement reporting during a pandemic, period of protests and social unrest and wildfires in Oregon.

Maxine graduated from Cornell in 1988 and wrote for The Cornell Daily Sun since the first semester of her freshman year, ultimately serving as assistant managing editor as a senior. After graduation, she spent a year in Israel, and wrote for an English-language daily newspaper in Jerusalem called The Nation. After her year in Israel, she traveled through Europe and visited Russia, before returning to the States, where she obtained a six month internship writing for The Hartford Courant in its Washington, DC bureau, covering the Connecticut Congressional delegation. She was hired full-time by The Courant, covered municipal news from one of its suburban bureaus and then covered the Hartford Police Department. After about seven years at The Courant, she moved west in 1998 to cover the Portland Police Bureau for The Oregonian. She has covered major crime in Oregon, the Police Bureau and in the last several years, also federal court, including the Bundy trials.
