Join us for a thoughtful discussion with Dr. Timiebi Aganaba-Jeanty, spouse of esteemed Cornell Club of AZ member Jean-Moise Jeanty JGSM ‘18.

In June of 2018, the Trump administration directed the Department of Defense and Pentagon to begin the process necessary to establish a Space Force as the sixth branch of the Armed Forces, separate and equal to the other branches. Since then, the media and pundit mill has interpreted this call in a variety of ways.  Finally, on December 20, 2019, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) established the Space Force with support from Congress.

What does this actually mean for the future of space endeavors in America and the world?
We will discuss the perceived threats that led to the establishment of the Space Force and describe its several component parts, introduce some of the debates about the legality of military uses of space, and challenge you to make up your own mind if peace, security, and development in space will be advanced through this new institution.
