Join with other Cornellians and fans to cheer on Cornell in an 18 Team Exhibition! Racing will be on the Severn River directly off the seawall at the Naval Academy Robert Crowne Center. Winds that day may dictate that the races are further out in the Bay. Cornell will be represented by both Women (Varsity) and Men (Club) in two person vessels. Further information from Coach Brian Clancy is below.
If you would like to meet-up with other Cornellians to cheer on the Big Red, join us at Market Place (25 Market Space, Annapolis, at City Dock) Sunday at 10:00 AM. Grab a cup of coffee and a pastry or quiche, then we’ll head over to cheer on the sailors. Binoculars are a good idea.
Look for Michele Morisy ’76 wearing Red and White at Market Place. There is no pre-registration for this informal meet up.
From Coach Clancy:
College Sailing events are mostly 18 team events at a given host site.
It’s a Coed event. College Sailing is made up of roughly 70% Coed racing, with roles undefined. Meaning, you can race with a female skipper, male skipper, female crew, or male crew. Women & Men compete as equals on the race course, racing against each other. I don’t know of another Collegiate sport where women & men compete against each other on a level playing field (water)…
We race in two-person vessels primarily.
The University recognizes the women on our roster as varsity athletes, and the men on our roster as club athletes. There is no difference to their responsibilities as members of the team.
College Sailing regattas begin racing around 10:30am each day (Saturday & Sunday). On Saturdays we are typically done racing around 5pm, and on Sunday’s sometime between 1 – 3pm. (Lunch breaks are in the middle of the day for about an hour)
There are no tickets, anyone can show up and watch. We would love to see some Red on the waters edge.
