The Cornell Club of Ithaca will host Chief Curator and Curator of Asian Art, Ellen Avril, as part of its inaugural Lecture Series.

Ellen will provide us with an exclusive and in-depth tour of the Johnson Art Museum. After our tour, she will join us for a delicious brunch at Banfi’s in the Statler Hotel to continue the conversation. Registration for this event is limited to 20 people.

Ellen Avril is chief curator and curator of Asian art, and currently co-interim director of the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art. Since joining the staff of the Johnson Museum in 1998, she has curated or co-curated numerous exhibitions on a wide range of topics in traditional and contemporary Asian art. Among the exhibition catalogues she has authored or co-authored are Traded Treasure: Indian Textiles for Global Markets (2019); Nature Observed and Imagined: Five Hundred Years of Chinese Paintings (2010); Ancient Artistry: Pre-Chinese Ceramics and Jades from the Shatzman Collection (2006); and Heavenly Earth: Early Chinese Ceramics from the Shatzman Collection (2004).

Registration is limited to 20 people, with a registration fee of $50 per person. One-half of your registration fee will go directly in support of the Arlene Sadd ’34 Endowed Cornell Traditions Fellowship in support of an Ithaca-area student and is tax deductible.
