•  Ticket – Point Bonita Lighthouse – $5.00

Join alumni from Cornell University for a breathtaking hike to the iconic Point Lighthouse, often referred to as “the gatekeeper to the San Francisco Bay”. Point Bonita Lighthouse is located at the Southern tip of the Marin headlands. It is an active lighthouse steeped in the vibrant history of the Bay. This light house, first built in 1855, was the 3rd lighthouse established on the West Coast.

The easy up and back trail yields spectacular views of the Pacific Cliffs and the seals below. Prior to the trail to the lighthouse, we will hike along Mendell Road road and see Battery Mendell along with a loop that has views of Bird Island and Rodeo Lagoon. Then, during the approach to the actual lighthouse, we will also get to experience passing through a tunnel built over 150 years ago as well as crossing a stunning suspension bridge to the lighthouse entrance. So don’t miss an opportunity to join fellow alumni as we explore the gatekeeper to the Bay.

Trailhead Location: We will meet at the trail parking lot a little past the Point Bonita YMCA (981 Fort Barry, Sausalito, CA 94965). Alternatively – you can park at the Point Bonita YMCA (981 Fort Barry, Sausalito, CA 94965) and then walk south along Field road to the trailhead.
