Join us at The History Center in Tompkins County for an informative and hands-on event. We’ll actually be playing historians for a couple of hours by helping to transcribe census records for Ithaca to a searchable database of people records. As we enter data into the History Forge Project, we’ll learn about Ithaca and its people, occupations, businesses, buildings and institutions, and about the raw materials of historical inquiry. It is truly awesome to see data entered appear on maps for future use by historians, family genealogists, and our entire community. No previous experience necessary! There will be a brief introduction about the how-tos of data entry (typing information from the census records into a form) and plenty of experienced mentors to assist. We’ll be handing out prizes of Cornell swag as well. Additionally, Rod Howe, Executive Director of The History Center, will speak about the Center’s exciting move, later this year, to The Commons.
