About the book:
In THE HUMAN EDGE: Smarter Decisions in the Age of AI (Cornell Publishing; May 15,
2026), award-winning author and long-time educator at both Cornell University and Columbia
Business School, Cheryl Strauss Einhorn, explains how AI can be used to augment, not
replace, human judgment. Founder of the decisions-sciences company Decisive and creator of
the AREA Method, Cheryl has developed a repeatable, actionable framework for solving
complex problems with AI, grounded in real-world case studies and thoughtful analysis of
human cognition.

Rather than treating AI as a trusted authority, THE HUMAN EDGE challenges us to engage with
the technology with skepticism, curiosity, and creativity. Though the capabilities of the
technology will evolve, understanding the irreplaceable elements of human cognition allows us
to extend what’s possible without sacrificing speed, ethics, or agency.

The book provides a step-by-step guide for AI-supported decision-making techniques, such as:

  • Breadth to Depth: Knowing when and how to narrow down AI’s volume of information,
which often becomes a barrier to action, causing “analysis paralysis.”

  • Creative Friction: Allowing skepticism and challenging AI’s outputs to mitigate biases,
both human and machine, while enhancing the quality of feedback.

  • Progressive Prompting: When using AI as a research tool, approach the process the way
you use Netflix to find your next favorite TV show.

AI is creating a future of both unknown and ever-expanding possibilities. THE HUMAN EDGE
is the blueprint for making better, more confident choices and serves as a powerful reminder that
the most important decisions will always be uniquely human.
