The good Cornellians can do: Christian Kasper MS ’00
Christian Kasper MS '00 works with GAP Inc. in San Francisco, as part of their global real estate team. Living and working in one of the nation’s most affluent cities, he feels moved to help neighbors who are experiencing food insecurity.
For more than 20 years Christian has volunteered with Glide Memorial Church’s Daily Free Meals Program. According to GLIDE’s website, the program serves about 1,700 free meals each day.
“Food insecurity in one of the wealthiest regions of the United States has always struck me as both surprising and troubling,” says Christian. “The diversity of people who rely on GLIDE's services has never ceased to amaze me.”
He and other GLIDE volunteers prepare and serve free hot meals to hundreds of residents in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood. They also package and distribute food bags through the church’s community food program.
“One of the aspects of GLIDE that I admire most is its philosophy of asking no questions,” Christian says.
“Anyone who needs a meal is welcomed with dignity and respect. I firmly believe that this sense of dignity is just as important as the meal itself,” he adds.
