The good Cornellians can do: Adam Gomez ’05
Adam Gomez ’05 volunteers with Corazon Ministries to provide support services to people who are unhoused or in active substance use. He also volunteers as a peer recovery coach for students involved in the Collegiate Recovery Program at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA)—where he recently earned a master’s degree in finance.
“The UTSA recovery program played a pivotal role in my recovery journey throughout my time as a graduate student,” Adam says.
As someone who has experienced firsthand what it’s like to live without stable housing, Adam knows the work he’s doing can save a life—whether by providing naloxone to prevent overdose deaths, connecting people to support services, or by reducing stigma for people to seek help. Adam recently provided street outreach harm reduction services for the first time.
“On an early spring rainy day, I provided harm reduction supplies requested by clients, offered sack lunches and bottled water, and encouraged clients to speak with Corazon staff about participating in treatment services,” he says.
