History lives in the stories we tell — and in the lives we choose to celebrate. The Steven W. Siegel ’68 Awards honor a remarkable Cornellian whose legacy reminds us that preserving history is a form of activism, and living authentically is a form of leadership.
Steven Siegel was more than an archivist or advocate — he was a builder of community. From championing LGBTQ+ rights and Jewish genealogy to shaping alumni life at Cornell, Steven made space for stories that matter. He believed in the power of showing up, speaking out, and lifting others as he climbed.
At a time when LGBTQ+ rights continue to be challenged, we celebrate the Siegel Award recipients for carrying that legacy forward — through courage, advocacy, and joy. This is more than an award. It’s a celebration of who we are, where we’ve come from, and the future we’re building together.
The Steven W. Siegel ’68 Awards honor the legacy of Steven W. Siegel, a dedicated Cornell alumni volunteer and the first openly gay recipient of the Frank H.T. Rhodes Exemplary Alumni Service Award, Cornell’s highest alumni honor. These awards recognize individuals who, like Siegel, have made significant contributions to Cornell University and the LGBTQ+ community through their leadership, advocacy, and service.
To kick off our NYC Pride celebrations, we are honoring our 2025 winners of the Steven W. Siegel ’68 Awards in two categories – the Steven W. Siegel ’68 Award and the Student Leader Award – at the Cornell Club of New York.

Dress Code
Tonight is a celebration — of legacy, of pride, and of community — so bring your full, fabulous self.
Think cocktail attire with personality. Sequins? Yes. Velvet blazers? Absolutely. Power suits, statement accessories, vintage finds, and bold colors are all encouraged. Channel archival elegance with a modern twist — whether that means a sharp look that honors queer icons of the past or a fit that says this is what pride looks like today.
Be polished, be playful, be proud. Dress to honor history — and to dance into the future.
