Cornell Information Technologies (CIT) is changing email forwarding as directed by the university’s IT Governance Council. Cornell will be changing how email forwarding service works and this requires action from you. This effort will provide a more stable and reliable email service for you and make more efficient use of Cornell’s IT resources. During the summer and fall of 2019, communications were sent to those using email forwarding with instructions about the change and steps to ensure continued email deliverability.

How these changes will affect you

Starting in 2021, messages sent to your will not be delivered to your forwarding addresses, unless you set up your email forwarding in Cornell G Suite. Email services for students and alumni are provided by Google. All alumni who can receive email at a Cornell address have a Google account associated with their NetID. Follow the steps below to transition your email forwarding to Cornell G Suite and ensure continued deliverability.

  1. Reset your NetID password if you were notified to change it. This will connect your Cornell Google login with your NetID and NetID password. If you remember your NetID password, you can reset it. If you do not remember your NetID password, you can reset it using the Forgot Password process.
  2. The university has reserved a Cornell Google account for you to use. Sign into it using your Cornell NetID and associated password.
  3. Set up your email forwarding preference with Google. The address is displayed as a default in your Gmail forwarding settings. Make sure you change the selection to your preferred email forwarding address.
  4. If you wish to forward to multiple accounts, You can forward to personal Google accounts using Google’s multiple sign-in or if you want to deliver to multiple other accounts, instructions are available.
