Learn on location: the lectures

  • Travel with Cornell
What Conservation Sounds Like—an Introduction to Conservation Bioacoustics (Part 1)

    by Holger Klinck

Learn about the different ways animals produce and use sound to communicate, navigate, and find prey. Discover how scientists eavesdrop and record sounds in nature at ecologically relevant scales.

  • Travel with Cornell
    The Geological History of Antarctica

    by Warren Allmon

The lecture will explore the geological structure of the continent and how it came to be that way over the past half-billion years.

  • Travel with Cornell
What Conservation Sounds Like—an Introduction to Conservation Bioacoustics (Part 2)

    by Holger Klinck

Discuss how researchers extract interesting bits from the extensive sound archives. Share examples of how dedicated experts use the results of these analyses to make decisions and impart conservation action.

  • Travel with Cornell
    The Biological History of Antarctica

    by Warren Allmon

The lecture will explore what the fossil record tells us about the history and evolution of life on and around the continent, and what its biodiversity looks like today.

  • Travel with Cornell
PALAOA, the Perennial Acoustic Observatory in the Antarctic Ocean

    by Holger Klinck

An inside glimpse at what it took to develop and operate a real-time listening post in Antarctica to study the dynamic underwater soundscape of the eastern Weddell Sea.

  • Travel with Cornell
    Climate and Oceanography of Antarctica

    by Warren Allmon

The lecture will explore how the ocean and atmosphere around the continent work today, and how Antarctica’s climate is changing.
