Our annual Lunar New Year Celebration is back! Thanks to Jack Chen ’00, we will be at his restaurant, Ding Teng Fang in Philadelphia’s Chinatown.
Food will be pre-selected and served family style, vegetarian/vegan, and gluten-free options included. The price includes soft drinks, tea, taxes, and service charges. The restaurant has a full bar, so you will be able to order drinks/wine/beer for individual payment.
Come at 5:30 to mingle and network. Dinner will be served at 6.
Transportation: The restaurant is 2 blocks from the SEPTA Jefferson (regional rail) and 11th St (MFL) stations. There is also ample parking in the neighborhood available.
The Year of the Wood Snake begins January 29th. According to the South CHina Morning Post:
“We are entering into a year of death and rebirth, a year to make responsible decisions to evolve spiritually, moving away from old ways and habits that no longer serve us well. Among all living creatures, the snake is the best equipped due to its magnetic resonance to hear the heartbeat of Mother Earth. It is a dynamic year to learn from the past, moving forward with wisdom, awareness, transformation, and compassion.
The snake represents wisdom, knowledge, intelligence, intuition, and creativity. Snakes are also associated with good luck, prosperity, fertility, and longevity. In some legends, snakes are considered divine messengers and guardians of sacred places. Snakes are also revered for their ability to shed their skin and renew themselves, symbolizing transformation and rebirth.
The Wood Snake is a charming, intelligent, and creative sign, but also secretive, cunning, and sometimes ruthless.
At the beginning of 2025, the world is still under the rulership of the outgoing and positive dragon, and so a high-action period with plenty of activity is expected. Snake years are times when the world stops to think; on the international scene, governments may be using this time to build up resources for their arsenals.”
