SUMMARY:Central Park Trees Uncovered - 10.24.26 - Session 1 @ 10:30 AM
DESCRIPTION:One of the great foundations of Central Park is its depth and variety of trees.  Join Dendro Lab NYC founder\, Carey Russell on Saturday\, October 24th for one or both of two fascinating walks through the park to learn about different species – not only how to identify them\, but also their local history in the park and their interrelationships with the surrounding ecosystem. Even if you know nothing about trees\, maybe especially if you know nothing about trees\, Carey’s walks will inform and delight you. You’ll never look at a park or forest the same way again. \nCarey is providing two different walks within the park with a lunch break in between sessions for anyone who wants to continue the conversation about trees. The program is the same for Saturday and Sunday. The cost of each session is $25 and will take place rain or shine. You can sign up for one or both. Please note – each walk is limited to 17 registrants.  \nIt’s a wonderful way to learn more about Central Park flora from an extremely personable and renowned dendrologist.  Hope you can join us. \nEvent Details:\nDate: Saturday\, October 24\, 2026\nSession 1: The Broadleaf Trees (10:30am – 12:30pm) \nMeet at the Humboldt Monument (77th & Central Park West)\nCost: $25.00\nLimited to 17 Registrants\nThis event will happen rain or shine. \nIf you’d like a general overview for most of the tree species in Central Park\, this tour is for you.  You’ll learn about key dendrology concepts/terms and will be introduced to 10 of Central Park’s most common broadleaf trees including oak\, maple\, elm\, hickory\, and ash.  The tour will also explore the history\, growth\, development and threats to different tree species in the park – all of which will help you form a deeper relationship with the greatest of all the park’s assets – its trees.  \nLunch: Le Pain Quotidien by Sheep Meadow (12:30pm – 2:00pm) \nIf you have any questions or want to continue conversations from the tour\, Carey will be available in between sessions for an informal discussion about trees.
