SUMMARY:CC of Minnesota: Online Book Club 2026
DESCRIPTION:This is a reminder of the great opportunity for Cornell alumni in Minnesota who are looking to connect with fellow graduates through the love of reading. The Cornell Club of Minnesota’s Book Club offers the perfect opportunity to engage with like-minded alumni\, explore diverse literary works\, and build meaningful connections. We meet on the second Wednesday of each month (typically virtually)\, and this book club welcomes 4-6 (and hopefully more) alumni readers for stimulating discussions that bridge the gap between your Cornell memories and current interests. \nUpcoming book selections: \nWednesday 5/13/26 at 7:30 p.m. Central (tentative): “Precipice” by Richard Harris (2024; 464p) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/199820684-precipice This book blends history and fiction in the story of Venetia Stanley’s affair with Prime Minister H. H. Asquith during World War I\, where intimate letters and political secrets intertwine in a scandal that threatens both love and government. \nWednesday 6/10/26 at 7:30 p.m. Central (tentative): “The Measure” by Nikki Erlick (2022; 353p) https://goodreads.com/book/show/58884736-the-measure This book imagines a world where everyone receives a box revealing how long they’ll live\, forcing individuals and societies to confront how knowledge of mortality shapes meaning\, choice\, and connection. \nWednesday 7/8/26 at 7:30 p.m. Central: “Project Hail Mary” by Andy Weir (2021; 476p) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/54493401-project-hail-mary \nWe might also meet in person in June or July (TBD)\, though May will be virtual. We hope to see you virtually or in person soon! \n \nPlease e-mail Lucas Hjelle at lmh18@cornell.edu for more information.\n \nKeep up the great reading!

SUMMARY:Introduction to Wines in NYC - An Afternoon of Wine & Discovery
DESCRIPTION:Some Cornell memories never fade — and for thousands of us\, Introduction to Wines is one of them. \nWe’re thrilled to bring that beloved experience to New York City. On Saturday\, May 2nd from 3:00 to 5:30 PM\, Nolan Hotel School’s Senior Lecturer Cheryl Stanley ’00 will be in town to lead an intimate\, curated tasting — from the glacial valleys of the Finger Lakes to the sun-drenched hillsides of California and Europe. \nBut the afternoon holds one more surprise. Guests will be among the select few to taste the Hotel Ezra Cornell 100 — a rare commemorative Champagne produced in just 1\,925 bottles to honor the year HEC first opened its doors. It’s not just a wine; it’s a celebration of Cornell history in a glass. \nThe setting is equally special: The Madison Room at Scarpetta\, an elegant private dining room in NoMad. Five wines. Artisanal cheeses. Assorted salumi. Great company. And one of the faculty who made it all unforgettable the first time. \nEvent Details:\nDate: Saturday\, May 2\, 2026\nTime: 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.\nLocation: The Madison Room at Scarpetta — 88 Madison Avenue  New York\, NY 10016\nCost: $79 per person \nSpace is limited. We’d love to see you there. \n\n \nAbout Cheryl Stanley: \nCheryl Stanley is a senior lecturer in food and beverage management at the Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration. She has been involved with food since the age of ten\, when she started her own chocolate business\, Cheryl’s Chocolates. Following her interest in food\, she attended the Nolan School and graduated in 2000. \nWhile at Cornell\, Stanley discovered her passion for beverages through the courses Introduction to Wines\, Food and Wine Pairing\, and Beverage Management. Upon graduation\, she continued this enthusiasm for beverages and food service in both hotel and restaurant operations on the West Coast\, where she worked for the Four Seasons Hotel\, Newport Beach\, and the Wine Cask in Santa Barbara.
