Lexi not only takes her in, but ultimately accepts her offer to serve as a surrogate for the child that Lexi\u2014whose infertility struggles contributed to a marital separation\u2014has longed for.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It seems like an ideal arrangement\u2014until Mara vanishes just before the baby is due.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.daniellegirard.com\/\">prolific author<\/a> who has appeared on the Amazon and <em>USA Today<\/em> bestseller lists, the former government major has penned several mystery series and numerous standalone novels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Doom Loop<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eswar Prasad<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prasad, the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/prasad.dyson.cornell.edu\/\">Tolani Senior Professor<\/a> of International Trade Policy in the Dyson School, previously published <em>The Future of Money<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hachettebookgroup.com\/titles\/eswar-s-prasad\/the-doom-loop\/9781541705937\/\">he explores<\/a> (in the words of the subtitle) \u201cwhy the world economic order is spiraling into disorder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As he writes, this increasingly dire situation is due to a \u201cfeedback loop between economics, domestic politics, and geopolitics\u201d\u2014as the uneven benefits of globalization have led to financial crises in developing countries and to the collapse of manufacturing sectors in advanced economies.<\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"775\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe ensuing populist backlash,\u201d he writes, \u201chas put in power leaders who have undermined democratic institutions and are hostile to globalization. \u2026 And the system of rules that underpinned the post-World War II world order is at risk of decay or, worse, irrelevance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The book earned praise from the <em>Financial Times<\/em>, which opined: \u201cPrasad is engaging and clear and provides an excellent survey of some of the most important issues in international affairs today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is Is Enough<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lauren Mukamal Camp \u201988<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Camp\u2019s eight <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.laurencamp.com\/\">previous collections<\/a> of poetry include <em>In Old Sky<\/em>, which came out of her term as astronomer-in-residence at Grand Canyon National Park. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tamupress.com\/book\/9781680034523\/is-is-enough\/\">Her latest<\/a> is published by Texas Review Press as part of its 21st Century Poets series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Is Is Enough<\/em> begins in heritage and harmony, then breaks apart into the strange world and tautly stretched emotions that accompany dementia,\u201d states the publisher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe collection flickers through and locates in distorted realities, loss, and gentling. By haunting the past, the author reweaves and reorients against a continual vanishing. Ordinary situations begin to seem like joy in reverse, a treatise on the honesty of the present.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Camp writes in a poem titled <em>Sanctuary<\/em>: \u201c<em>I collect another phrase \/ for safekeeping. No need to do more \/ than hold his fragrance: egg, anger, each thick \/ river of rejoicing. On my fridge, a scrap \/ of my father, his perfect print \/ which held all the black of a day \/ and its losses. Aimed at kids aged 6\u20138, it tells the story of a little boy who\u2019s excited to become a big brother, as his parents joyfully prepare for the birth of a new baby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s sad and confused at the sudden news that the new sibling is no longer coming; the following spring, the family plants a garden together as a way of coping with the loss and marking a new beginning.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Kirkus<\/em> calls the volume \u201caffirming, moving, and healing,\u201d noting: \u201cTold with age-appropriate language and care, this story will be a balm to families coping with a similar loss.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also a collage artist, Settembre has her own online <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mandywarhol.com\/\">art store<\/a>. <em>Ours<\/em> is her literary debut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Psychology of Tipping<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Michael Lynn<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lynn, who\u2019s the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/business.cornell.edu\/faculty-research\/faculty\/wml3\/\">Michael D. Johnson and Family Professor<\/a> of Services Marketing in the Nolan School, is one of the world\u2019s leading experts on tipping\u2014a subject that has become increasingly fraught in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/book\/9783032095329?\">His book<\/a> brings together years of his scholarship on the subject\u2014some of it previously unpublished\u2014for a general audience of customers and service professionals.
