Thus the \u201cGet Lit\u201d headline, and many similar japes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>While the annual joke issues were long limited to print, in 2020\u2014when students left campus due to the pandemic\u2014it went online for the first time; now, there\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/cornellsun.com\/category\/four-twenty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201c4\/20\u201d drop-down menu<\/a> on the homepage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a joke section,\u201d says the landing page, \u201ccurated by <em>Sun<\/em> editors who are tired\u2014but not tired enough to stop making 4\/20 jokes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"rkv-gutter-bottom-quarter wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fun with \u2018fake news\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the <em>Sun<\/em>\u2019s early parodies were meant to fool readers and even provoke outrage; often, a \u201cwho to call\u201d box listed actual administrators\u2019 phone numbers, guaranteeing headaches for Day Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany of the joke issues give a unique glimpse into aspects of student life in earlier eras,\u201d says University history expert Corey Earle \u201907. \u201cWhat were the controversial topics at the time? What were the stories that might rile up the student body? the <em>Sun<\/em> announced in 1962, more than two decades before it actually happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many joke stories involved outlandish construction proposals\u2014often on the hallowed Arts Quad, which would allegedly see such abominations as a 35-story skyscraper (1942); an aeronautical research facility smack in the middle (1966); and a subterranean parking lot (1970).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Other stories targeted student stress points: all classes would henceforth be graded on a \u201cC\u201d curve;
