Their work shows up in courtrooms and cornfields, emergency call centers and construction sites, insect collections and robotics workshops. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PL1tDDtVwAGG5q70mgEZG0JCpuPUMDEp_s\">Research Matters<\/a><\/em>, a new video podcast series from University Relations, will make those connections visible, and accessible, to a broad public audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignwide is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Video: Research Matters - A Cornell University Podcast - Episode 1 - David Rand\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4r8LZOjoZpU?list=PL1tDDtVwAGG5q70mgEZG0JCpuPUMDEp_s\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Launched on January 27 with\u00a0three episodes, <em>Research Matters<\/em> spotlights Cornell scholars whose research directly engages with real-world challenges, from climate change and public safety to mental health, food systems, and the future of technology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hosted by <em>Cornell Chronicle<\/em> staff writer Laura Reiley and produced by Garth Avery, broadcast studio specialist in Media Relations, the series translates complex scholarship into casual conversations that can be understood by listeners of all backgrounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignwide is-style-solid-color\"><blockquote><p>The series translates complex scholarship into casual conversations that can be understood by listeners of all backgrounds.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis series is about showing why research matters on campus and beyond,\u201d said Monica Yant Kinney, associate vice president for university relations. \u201cCornell\u2019s researchers are deeply engaged with the world as it is\u2014and as it could be. <em>Research Matters<\/em> gives them space to explain not just what they\u2019re studying, but why it matters now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Early episodes reflect the breadth of Cornell\u2019s research enterprise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In one installment, psychologist\u00a0<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/psychology.cornell.edu\/jessica-m-salerno\">Jessica Salerno<\/a> discusses\u00a0how subtle cues like tone or emotional expression can affect whether 911 callers are treated as victims or suspects.
