As a food marketer with 25 years of experience, Oyola knew that many Americans love lamb, but don\u2019t eat as much of it as others around the world do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>\u201cPeople are afraid to cook it, because we didn\u2019t grow up with it in our kitchens, and we don\u2019t want to mess it up,\u201d says Oyola, a former communication major in CALS who also works as the client relations VP of a food and beverage marketing agency based in Atlanta.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI asked myself: can I do for lamb what turkey deli meat did for turkey, and make it more accessible than just on holidays and special \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>That possibility inspired Oyola to found <a href=\"https:\/\/aussieselect.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aussie Select<\/a>, a line of deli-style lamb that is fully cooked and Halal certified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its lamb is sourced from Australia, from sheep that are free-range and naturally fed on pasturelands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt has a delicious, unique flavor,\u201d Oyola says. \u201cLamb is a game meat, but we&#8217;re told by everyone who tries it that it doesn\u2019t taste gamey at all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure meats are available both pre-packaged and at the deli counter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The company\u2019s lamb is shipped from Australia to Indiana, where the meat is smoked, cured, and flavored before being packaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aussie Select offers both sliced lamb and whole roasts, in varieties like agave rosemary, tikka masala, pastrami, and prime rib.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>I asked myself: can I do for lamb what turkey deli meat did for turkey, and make it more accessible than just on holidays and special occasions?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The products can be eaten alone or in sandwiches, on charcuterie boards, as a pizza topping, and in myriad other ways\u2014including frying it so it becomes crispy, like bacon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI like to say our product is the \u2018gateway\u2019 lamb,\u201d Oyola says. \u201cI do a lot of food shows, and most of the time, even if people have notes that half of Americans eat a sandwich every day\u2014but many Millennials and members of Gen Z are tired of traditional proteins like chicken and beef.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lamb, she says, has been increasing in popularity in the U.S.\u2014due in part to pandemic-era shortages of other meats that prompted some consumers to give it a try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>I like to say our product is the \u2018gateway\u2019 lamb.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re an adventurous eater, or somebody who wants to mix up their proteins,\u201d Oyola says, \u201cthis could be your new thing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aussie Select\u2019s meats are available for slicing at the deli counters of all Wegmans pastrami as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/nutrition\/a46990303\/best-new-foods-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">best cold cuts<\/a> in its 2024 food awards.
