Rhodes Exemplary Alumni Service Award. The honor, which goes to long-term volunteers who have dedicated themselves to a variety of Big Red alumni causes, is bestowed on a maximum of six people annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>The award is, of course, named for Cornell\u2019s <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/president.cornell.edu\/the-presidency\/frank-h-t-rhodes\/\">ninth president<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rhodes\u2014who <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.cornell.edu\/stories\/2020\/02\/frank-rhodes-cornells-ninth-president-dies-93\">passed away<\/a> in 2020 at age 93\u2014was a beloved figure who retained close ties to the University and its alumni long after retiring with the title of president emeritus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cornell\u2019s leader from 1977\u201395 (as well as a noted geologist, paleontologist, and Darwin scholar), Rhodes was the longest-serving president in the Ivy League when he stepped down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At that time, almost half of the Big Red\u2019s nearly 123,000 living undergrad alumni had attended while he was in office.<\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"819\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/11\/UP_11_10-01A-A-819x1024.jpg\" alt=\"President Frank H.T. Robert Everett \u201965<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For the Everetts, an introduction at a fraternity cocktail party 62 years ago led not only to a lifetime together, but to over six decades of connecting Cornellians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWithin two minutes of meeting her,\u201d Bob recalls, \u201cI knew this woman was special.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"819\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/11\/MJE-RCE-A-819x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Mary Jansen Everett \u201966 &amp; As networking chair, she has spent countless hours searching for\u2014and successfully finding\u2014alumni who had fallen off the radar, and linking them back with their classmates and the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Everetts\u2019 mutual passion for athletics dovetailed with their commitment to Cornell when, in the mid-1970s, Bob\u2014along with Jay Carter \u201971, MEng \u201972\u2014helped canvas high school coaches in Westchester County, NY, to uncover top athletes who could play at an Ivy level.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The result: Big Red coaches could concentrate on recruiting at 10 local schools rather than 50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two of their children (Liz Everett Krisberg \u201997 and Cate Everett, MMH \u201919) also attended Cornell; they, their parents, and other relatives banded together to create the position of Everett Family Head Coach of Women\u2019s Ice Hockey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From September through March\u2014the women\u2019s hockey season\u2014Bob and Mary drive throughout the country to attend every game, and Mary\u2019s famous Thursday cookie deliveries (eight to 10 dozen weekly!) have become a cherished tradition for \u201ctheir girls.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not just giving money,\u201d Mary emphasizes. \u201cIt\u2019s being involved, getting to know them, helping them. I say we receive the best gift of all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/profile\/frank-h-t-rhodes-exemplary-alumni-service-award-robert-s-harrison-76\/\">Robert Harrison \u201976<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When Harrison accepted his offer of admission, he couldn\u2019t have known how that decision would shape the next five decades of his life. From student trustee to chair of the Board of Trustees, he has helped guide Cornell through some of its most defining moments in recent decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Becoming a Cornellian, he says, \u201cturned out to be the single biggest, best decision that I ever made.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Harrison joined his class\u2019s Reunion committee for his 5th, and hasn\u2019t missed a Reunion yet. He co-chaired his 25th Reunion campaign committee and will co-chair again for his 50th in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond his class responsibilities, he served on the board of directors of Sigma Phi beginning in the 1990s. Not long after, he was asked to join the University Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By 2002, the then-chair of the Board of Trustees, Harold Tanner \u201952, called to ask if he would like to run as an alumni-elected trustee. I loved the people I met, the energy of the school,\u201d Ullmann says. \u201cThere was never a dull moment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She met her husband, Michael Ullmann \u201980, when they were both history majors. They had some classes together, went on one date, and kept in touch. One of her favorite activities has been organizing Red Hot Hockey \/ Frozen Apple tickets for the Class of \u201981 since the event\u2019s inception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ullmann is particularly passionate about her involvement with the President\u2019s Council of Cornell Women (PCCW). She served as vice chair for four years and headed the development committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have really loved being part of PCCW,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s such a dynamic group of women, such interesting people with different interests and backgrounds and passions\u2014not dissimilar to why I loved being at Cornell.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ullmann splits her time between Princeton, NJ, and Florida.
