During fall breaks on the Hill, they\u2019d return to pitch in with the annual harvest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the pair, who both majored in agricultural business management in CALS, are running the enterprise along with their mom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Located not far from Cape Cod, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/explore\/locations\/1025588528\/gilmore-cranberry-co\/recent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gilmore Cranberry Company<\/a> is a family business whose fruit is featured in some of the most popular products on the market\u2014during the holidays It was founded in 1930\u2014with the sisters\u2019 extended family as one of the three original members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two <a href=\"https:\/\/dyson.cornell.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dyson School<\/a> alums plan to continue the tradition of passing the land on to the next generation\u2014and they\u2019ve even welcomed fellow Cornellians through visits organized by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cornellclub.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cornell Club of Boston<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>It\u2019s such an honor and so heartwarming to know we get to be a part of people having special moments with their family in this little way.<\/p>\n<cite><strong>Alison Gilmore Carr \u201901<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>As they explain, the crop is typically harvested in October: the bogs in which they grow are flooded, and the water is agitated so the berries fall off the vines and float to the top for collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sisters have been running the farm for about a decade. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure still love the growing process\u2014and the fruit of their labors\u2014and use cranberries to make everything from sorbets to baked goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And of course, they also make cranberry sauce come back to it,\u201d Anderson says of working in the family business. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s exactly what we both did: we took off our corporate hats to put our agricultural hats back on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After graduation, the sisters lived together in NYC; Carr worked in food product marketing and Anderson had jobs at law and architecture firms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Our parents told us that if we love it, we&#8217;ll come back to it. That&#8217;s exactly what we both did.<\/p>\n<cite><strong>Abigail Gilmore Anderson \u201904<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCranberry farming is a part of the fabric of who I am,\u201d says Carr. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI had some other professional passions\u2014but I always knew that at some point, I\u2019d return to the farm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Top: A flooded bog during harvest at the Gilmore farm.
