By Melissa Newcomb<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n On a Friday evening in October, Jennifer Courtley Lory-Moran \u201996, MAT \u201997, checks the clock; she still has a few minutes before her performance begins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n She sets out the sheet music for her first song\u2014\u201cMarzipan\u201d from Tchaikovsky\u2019s Nutcracker Suite<\/em>\u2014on the stand above the keyboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then, just after the hour strikes six, she begins to serenade her audience\u2014which comprises everyone on East Hill who\u2019s within earshot of McGraw Tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s just one of the hundreds of concerts that Lory-Moran has played from this perch, far above Cayuga\u2019s waters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n<\/div> A chimesmaster since her first year on the Hill, she has long served as the program\u2019s advisor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cJen is the heartbeat of the Cornell Chimes<\/a>,\u201d says fellow chimesmaster Gretchen Ryan \u201997. \u201cShe is dedicated and thoughtful\u2014and, in my opinion, our most talented musician.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n In June 2024, Lory-Moran marked a major milestone in the chimes-playing world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"Jennifer](\"https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/1995-cornell-halloween-ghost-of-jennie-mcgraw-A.jpg\")
