It\u2019s edited by Parks, <a href=\"https:\/\/gregoryparks.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a professor<\/a> and associate dean at Wake Forest\u2019s law school; he also contributes a chapter on the role of legal counsel at fraternities and sororities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The volume covers a wide range of legal standards and liability issues around such topics as taxation, zoning, intellectual property, fair housing, governance, freedom of speech, search and seizure, hazing, and sexual assault.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Parks previously coedited several volumes on Black fraternities and sororities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They include <em>Alpha Phi Alpha: A Legacy of Greatness, the Demands of Transcendence<\/em>, about the Greek organization\u2014founded at Cornell in 1906\u2014that has counted Martin Luther King Jr., Cornel West, and Thurgood Marshall among its members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From Conflict to Convergence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Robert Fersh \u201972<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/convergencepolicy.org\/leader_council\/robert-fersh-staff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ILR alum<\/a> is the founder of the Convergence Center for Policy Resolution, a nonprofit that aims to strengthen democracy and our society through bridge-building and collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His co-authored <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wiley.com\/en-us\/From+Conflict+to+Convergence%3A+Coming+Together+to+Solve+Tough+Problems-p-9781394198566\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">nonfiction book<\/a> offers hands-on advice on de-escalating conflict and solving problems by finding constructive ways to reach people with whom you disagree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The book garnered a blurb from Leon Panetta, who served as secretary of defense and CIA director under President Obama and White House chief of staff under President Clinton.<\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"744\" src=\"https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/conflict-to-convergence-A.jpg\" alt=\"The cover of &quot;From Conflict to Convergence&quot;\" class=\"wp-image-42489 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/conflict-to-convergence-A.jpg 500w, https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/conflict-to-convergence-A-202x300.jpg 202w, https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/conflict-to-convergence-A-265x395.jpg 265w, https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/conflict-to-convergence-A-336x500.jpg 336w, https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/conflict-to-convergence-A-168x250.jpg 168w, https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/10\/conflict-to-convergence-A-84x125.jpg 84w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis book is an essential antidote to gridlock and dysfunction,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt is intended to inspire people in the various sectors of our society to get back to the job of building trust, relationships, and consensus in order to save our democracy. Like the authors, I have experienced Washington at its best. We know what works. Death, double-crosses, and a slew of monstrous cave creatures take their toll as the group battles to what they pray is an exit.
