Slope Day, hockey games, food trucks, and Dairy Bar ice cream are among the quarterfinalists in the battle for Big Red greatness<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From our 32 contenders in week one<\/a>, we have now narrowed down the field to just eight iconic Cornell traditions. Last week<\/a>, more than 1,100 voters made some tough decisions and gave the boot to several of the Big Red\u2019s most unique experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an extremely close matchup, \u201cWatching the sunset on Libe Slope\u201d defeated \u201cSinging the Alma Mater with your arms around your friends\u201d by only 21 votes! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, music has been eliminated from the bracket entirely, with the last two tuneful options losing.<\/p>\n<\/div>

\u201cHanging out with friends on Slope Day\u201d beat \u201cClimbing to the top of McGraw Tower for a Chimes concert,\u201d 65% to 35%, and \u201cSavoring a late-night snack at Louie\u2019s Lunch (or Hot Truck)\u201d overcame \u201cSeeing a world-renowned speaker or performance at Barton Hall,\u201d 69% to 31%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weather events performed surprisingly well, with \u201cDressing completely wrong for the Ithaca weather\u201d outpacing \u201cStrolling around Beebe Lake,\u201d 53% to 47%, and \u201cTrudging to class through the snow\u201d conquering \u201cPassing the swim test,\u201d 64% to 36%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the battle of deliciousness, ice cream vanquished alcohol, with \u201cEating ice cream at the Dairy Bar\u201d winning over \u201cSipping a glass in Intro to Wines,\u201d 61% to 39%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the most one-sided matchup was hockey vs. dragons in a week that saw the Cornell community celebrating both of them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCheering for Big Red hockey at Lynah Rink\u201d trounced \u201cMarching in the Dragon Day parade,\u201d 79% to 21%\u2014in the same week that Cornell Big Red men\u2019s hockey advanced to and lost in the NCAA regional finals, with the games played on the day before and after the traditional Dragon Day celebration on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
