Boy, did you deliver!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By <strong>Lindsay Lennon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">When we put out the call for Cornellians to submit their own Big Red \u201cnamesakes,\u201d we knew there would be at least a few Ezras in the mix. What we didn\u2019t see coming: that said Ezras would run the gamut from kids to dogs, and from fowl to feline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latter category, in fact, includes one \u201copinionated rescue cat\u201d\u2014as described by his owners, Maureen McCafferty Stanton \u201996, MPA \u201997, and Matt Stanton \u201996, MEng \u201997 (and seen, in all his majestic handsomeness, in the photo above).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dozens of entries we received\u2014while leaning heavily toward honoring the University\u2019s founder\u2014covered people and places from around campus, plus some prominent alumni. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center rkv-gutter-bottom-quarter\">Ezras, Ezras, everywhere!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<section aria-label=\"Image Carousel\" Bichon Fris\u00e9 named after famed infectious disease researcher Anthony Fauci, MD \u201966, who led the government\u2019s response to the COVID pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe considered naming him \u2018Ezra,\u2019\u201d says the Charlamb family\u2014which includes Cornellians Jayne (Rubenstein) \u201991; Larry \u201984; Max \u201922, MEng \u201923; and Abbey \u201925. \u201cBut given he was a \u2018pandemic puppy,\u2019 and given our highest regard for Dr. Fauci, we thought the name \u2018Fauci\u2019 was perfect!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also received some more obscure references\u2014like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/narbythecat\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Narby the cat<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery for Narby Krimsnatch, a legendary \u201cfaux Cornellian\u201d whose identity is <a href=\"http:\/\/cornell61.org\/narbycam.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a prank<\/a> that has persisted for more than half a century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe loved the name because it was unique and true to his character,\u201d says Alyssa. \u201cHe reminds us of all the good times we had adventuring around campus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>David Harding \u201972, PhD \u201983, a physics major on the Hill, notes that his allergies\u2014as well as his wife\u2019s\u2014preclude his family from having mammals or birds as pets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Years ago, they acquired a betta fish\u2014and Harding named him Hans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s in honor of Hans Bethe (pronounced \u201cbeta\u201d), the Nobel Prize-winning physicist and Manhattan Project life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, Willard celebrates 27 years with the family of Seth Kibel \u201996 and Sandy Alexander \u201996.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re only half-joking when we say that Willard is probably going to outlive us all,\u201d they note. \u201cSomeday, the only ones left will be Keith Richards and our turtle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide bought a new car, its official color was listed as \u201ccosmic gray\u201d; he and wife Lisa Hazard \u201991 named it in memory of astronomy professor Carl Sagan, legendary host of TV\u2019s \u201cCosmos.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow,\u201d Lynch says, \u201cif I can just manage to drive it for <em>billions<\/em> of miles \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond pets and vehicles, a number of you went all in\u2014bestowing Cornellian names on your offspring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These include Jennifer Leeds \u201991 and Robert Hess \u201991 who, after meeting on the Hill, on the Hill himself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tjaden Hess \u201920 graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences\u2014earning a double major in math and computer science, in close proximity to his namesake
