{"id":17208,"date":"2023-02-10T21:48:19","date_gmt":"2023-02-11T02:48:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/?p=17208"},"modified":"2023-02-19T11:27:13","modified_gmt":"2023-02-19T16:27:13","slug":"valentine-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/valentine-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"Hearts on the Hill"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">In a Valentine\u2019s Day photo tour, we showcase Cornellian couples on and around campus, captured by Cupid\u2019s camera<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By <strong>Lindsay Lennon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Marti Reisman Sheldon \u201983 and Mark Sheldon, MS \u201985, met in 1983 through a new dating service called Campus Connections\u2014which, for $2.50, would match an aspiring Cornellian lovebird with a hand-picked potential mate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor that price, who could resist?\u201d says Marti. \u201cI picked up the paper application at the Straight and applied.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was just before Winter Break\u2014and when she returned to campus in January, she had her match. Mark called her, and they arranged to meet at the Nines in Collegetown a few days later. They\u2019re still together to this day\u2014after 36 years of marriage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you had your own Big Red sweetheart\u2014whether or not the romance became a life-long partnership\u2014you may be feeling particularly nostalgic for the Hill this time of year. Not only did we receive photos of more than 200 alumni, but we had the pleasure of reading romantic tales from across the decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some now-married couples were platonic for years before Cupid struck. Others were set up on blind dates by their roommates\u2014or even their Cornellian parents.
