class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bliss Montage<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ling Ma, MFA \u201916<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An indie bestseller, Ma\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/us.macmillan.com\/books\/9780374717124\/blissmontage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">collection of eight short stories<\/a> has received numerous accolades, including being named to best-of lists by the <em>New York Times<\/em>, the <em>New Yorker<\/em>, <em>Vogue<\/em>, and <em>Kirkus<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEach story unspools like a dream sequence privately remembered,\u201d says <em>Vanity Fair<\/em>, while <em>Esquire<\/em> called the book \u201cweird and wonderful, surreal and subversive.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s the sophomore entry for the author\u2014a <a href=\"https:\/\/english.uchicago.edu\/people\/ling-ma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">faculty member<\/a> at the University of Chicago\u2014following her widely \u201966\u201368<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muchow has spent decades as an attorney, entrepreneur, investor, and consultant; now, he has channeled that experience into a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.davidmuchowauthor.com\/books\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hands-on guide<\/a> aimed at both aspiring startup founders and the leaders of existing firms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It covers a host of practical dos and don\u2019ts\u2014from creating a business plan and courting investors to managing risk and safeguarding intellectual property. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany business books deal with general information on management or \u2018motivation,\u2019\u201d Muchow writes.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s fine, but I\u2019ve never had a client ask about motivation. Entrepreneurs are some of the most highly motivated people on the planet. Rather, they ask me about practical things like, \u2018Should I incorporate in Delaware? How can I cut my legal fees and when do I need a non-disclosure agreement?\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/startup-tips\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">detailed advice<\/a> is interspersed with a series of vignettes starring \u201cProfessor Scooter Magee,\u201d a fictional startup expert who goes on adventures and solves business problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-dots\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-style-offset\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Never Meant to Meet You<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alli Frank \u201992<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The novel is the second collaboration for <a href=\"https:\/\/alliandasha.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frank and her co-author<\/a>, Asha Youmans, who first teamed up for 2020\u2019s <em>Tiny Imperfections<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two bring a multicultural perspective to their work: Frank is white and Youmans is Black, and their books explore such issues as race, religion, family, love, and belonging. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In their latest, their protagonists are next-door neighbors: Marjette, a Black Baptist kindergarten teacher at a California private school, and Noa, a white Jewish woman whose daughter is one of Marjette\u2019s students. <\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" neighboring families blend, the authors do a good job exploring the common ground between African American and Jewish experiences: the characters feel like real people with racial and religious information science on the Hill, has devoted much of <a href=\"https:\/\/alumni.cornell.edu\/cornellians\/tech-privacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">her research<\/a> to the intersection of technology and privacy. Her <a href=\"https:\/\/press.princeton.edu\/books\/hardcover\/9780691175300\/data-driven\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">nonfiction book<\/a>, from Princeton University Press, is subtitled <em>Truckers, Technology, and the New Workplace Surveillance<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In it, she explores how digital surveillance has upended the trucking industry: an iconic field that once embodied independence on the open road\u2014as fictionalized on TV and in movies like <em>Smokey and the Bandit<\/em>\u2014has become increasingly monitored and controlled.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Data Driven<\/em> does not disappoint,\u201d says the <em>American Prospect<\/em>. \u201cIt is an exceptional exploration of how new rules and AI are transforming modern long-haul trucking, and how almost everyone who talks about the future of robots and work is getting it wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-dots\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-style-offset\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Dark Room Etiquette<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Robin Roe \u201907, BS \u201905<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roe\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harpercollins.com\/products\/dark-room-etiquette-robin-roe?variant=40050747801634\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">young-adult novel<\/a> follows a wealthy Texas teen named Sayers, who finds himself trapped in a windowless room, the victim of a kidnapping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only is the experience terrifying, but it forces him to question his own privilege and past behavior\u2014leading to unexpected changes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnlike hostage stories that end with the rescue, Roe digs deep into what happens in the aftermath as Sayers tries to learn how to be a functioning individual again and struggles with rebuilding his entire self,\u201d says <em>Kirkus<\/em>. <\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" href=\"https:\/\/www.robinroewriter.com\/books\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">previous YA novel<\/a>\u20142017\u2019s <em>A List of Cages<\/em>, about a high school senior reunited with his foster brother\u2014garnered numerous accolades and was translated into more than a dozen languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-dots\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm2060119\/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">filmmaker and author<\/a>, shares a byline with the late comics legend Stan Lee as one of three writers of this new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dynamite.com\/htmlfiles\/viewProduct.html?PRO=C9781524121327\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">graphic novel<\/a> (which also credits two artists). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s the latest entry in the bestselling <em>Alliances<\/em> universe, following up on <em>A Trick of Light<\/em> and <em>A New Reality<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new tale concerns a man who\u2019s on an interstellar quest to find the source of his supernatural abilities; in his travels, he encounters an eclectic group called the Orphans, eventually joining forces with them. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Orphans<\/em> is a fast-paced, intergalactic treasure hunt that explodes the <em>Alliances<\/em> universe into the cosmos,\u201d says the publisher. \u201cIt introduces an extraordinary band of lone survivors that must become a family to save the very fabric of reality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-dots\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-style-offset\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>On the Inconvenience of Other People<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lauren Berlant, PhD \u201985<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The volume, from Duke University Press, is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dukeupress.edu\/on-the-inconvenience-of-other-people\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">final book<\/a> by the late <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/07\/03\/books\/lauren-berlant-dead.html?searchResultPosition=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">scholar and cultural critic<\/a>, who passed away in June 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In it, the publisher says, \u201cBerlant focuses on the encounter with and the desire for the bother of other people and objects, showing that to be driven toward attachment is to desire to be inconvenienced.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The author, who taught at the University of Chicago, was best known in
