Carpenter Jr. Professor of International Studies; Kirshner is the Stephen and Barbara Friedman Professor of International Political Economy, Emeritus.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Published by Cornell University Press, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.cornell.edu\/stories\/2022\/07\/american-influence-waning-book-considers-what-comes-next\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the book<\/a> explores the current state of world affairs and the U.S.\u2019s declining influence on the global stage.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It contemplates the impact of such landmark events as the financial crisis of 2008, the long military conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Donald Trump\u2019s polarizing presidency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is hard to find a better range of leading scholars than [the editors] have gathered in this book to weigh up the end of Pax Americana\u2014perhaps the most important theme of our age,\u201d a <em>Financial Times<\/em> columnist says in a blurb. \u201cThis is a clear-eyed, analytically incisive, and compellingly relevant book for our times.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-dots\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-style-offset\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ocean State<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stewart O\u2019Nan, MFA \u201992<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I was in eighth grade my sister helped kill another girl,\u201d O\u2019Nan writes in his novel\u2019s arresting first lines. \u201cShe was in love, my mother said, like it was an excuse. She didn\u2019t know what she was doing. Published by Princeton University Press, they\u2019re based on information from the Lab\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">All About Birds<\/a> website, visited by more than 20 million people annually. Together, they cover the entire continental U.S., as well as bordering provinces of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There are more than 700 species of birds in North America,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/news.cornell.edu\/stories\/2022\/04\/new-regional-bird-guides-simplify-identification\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">notes series editor<\/a> Jill Holtzman Leichter \u201980, BS \u201981. &#8220;That\u2019s pretty daunting if you\u2019re just getting started in birdwatching. In it, Fils-Aim\u00e9 traces a winding path to becoming the unorthodox executive known to fans as \u201cthe Regginator.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He describes growing up as the son of Haitian immigrants in New York City, studying applied economics and management in the Dyson School, and working at Procter &amp; Gamble, Pizza Hut, and MTV Networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As a person of color in the gaming industry, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reggiefils-aime.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fils-Aim\u00e9<\/a> writes, he worked hard to increase diversity, especially in senior management. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBeing \u2018different\u2019 causes a reaction,\u201d he observes. \u201cGender, orientation, race, disability \u2026 the list is long. You can\u2019t ignore or avoid this reaction. Instead, lean into it. Don\u2019t hide, deny, or moderate who you are. Authenticity earns respect.
