The hosts (pals from the Class of \u201990) trace fellow alums\u2019 paths from the Hill to success in a variety of fields<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIs it riskier to invest in Bitcoin, or to run down Libe Slope in high heels?\u201d Michelle Stuzin Katz \u201990 posed that question to investor John Cota Small \u201990 in a recent episode of Cornell (thank) U<\/em><\/a>, a weekly podcast she co-hosts with Stephanie Marmelstein Gitlin \u201990.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Small\u2019s answer: the heels.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Launched in November 2021, the podcast spotlights a Cornellian in each weekly episode. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests have included alumni from all walks of life: doctors, lawyers, writers, entrepreneurs, researchers, social media influencers\u2014even a TV weatherman (Dave Price \u201987) and a New Yorker<\/em> cartoonist (Ali Solomon \u201901).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of August 2022, the show (which is not formally affiliated with the University) has about 40 episodes, all available on Apple and Spotify; new installments air every Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Longtime friends, Katz and Gitlin co-host their interviews via Zoom (Gitlin from Florida, Katz from suburban New York)\u2014carrying on lighthearted banter as they follow their subjects\u2019 stories from the Hill to the present day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe try to approach each guest as if we were having coffee for the first time,\u201d says Gitlin, who majored in psychology in Arts & Sciences and now works as an attorney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Katz and Gitlin\u2014who met when they pledged Sigma Delta Tau sorority\u2014particularly enjoy peppering their guests with sassy, unexpected queries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe find that if we ask the right questions, our guests share wonderful, funny, poignant, and sometimes even embarrassing stories,\u201d says Katz, a former human development major in Human Ecology, who does the bulk of the behind-the-scenes work on the podcast. \u201cI\u2019ve learned so much from them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

They asked physician and integrative medicine practitioner Danielle Greenman \u201907 whether acupuncture is more or less painful than stepping on hot coals. (Less.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To serial entrepreneur Jeff Wald \u201995, MAP \u201998, they playfully inquired whether he\u2019d invest in their fictitious startup: a professional hugging school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI like it,\u201d Wald replied. \u201cI like it a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other guests have included the creator of Cornell\u2019s pandemic-era \u201cZoom mixers\u201d (Tony Chen \u201912, ME \u201912), a serial entrepreneur and cosmetics guru (Divya Gugnani \u201998 of Wander Beauty), a prolific author and former game show contestant (Brad Herzog \u201990), a corporate CEO (School of Rock\u2019s Rob Price \u201990), and a nationally known pediatrician (Jen Trachtenberg \u201989).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hosts weave a few common elements into each episode\u2014including a speed round of Cornell-themed questions in which they ask guests to name things like their favorite Collegetown eatery, campus study spot, or Hot Truck order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The venture generates no income for its creators\u2014but for them, that\u2019s part of its appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s fun because there\u2019s no pressure to grow,\u201d Katz says. \u201cWe don\u2019t have to answer to anyone but ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

At the end of each show, Gitlin and Katz ask their guests to share a piece of advice for current students<\/a>\u2014and to name one thing for which they\u2019re most grateful to the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe three most common answers are: \u2018I was thankful to get in,\u2019 \u2018for the friends I made,\u2019 and \u2018for meeting my spouse,\u2019\u201d observes Katz. \u201cFar and away, our guests are most thankful for the relationships they made at Cornell.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
