Margaret Thomson commented on Jan 28, 2011 at 8:01 PM:

Our Washington DC and Cornell family is praying with Susan's and Gabrielle's families for optimum recovery, and praying for all of the families saddened by tragedy. Cornell is a family, an inclusive family of students, grads, staff, faculty, and their loved ones, as is the US Congress. Members of the House and the Senate, and their staffs, in DC and throughout the country, and the other Federal employees who support the mission of the legislative branch of the US government -- are a family. Partisan politics is a small but necessary part of the legislative process; family values of cooperation and communication are often more important.

We've been strong supporters of Gabby and have loved her warm, friendly style and approachablity as our U.S. Representative at the events we've attended. We wish her and Suzi Hileman speedy and complete recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and all the victims and their families.

Gabby, even though you can´t read this, I hope that you can feel the outpouring of love and concern for you. We are all horrified by this crazy act of violence, but hope that it will force people to reflect on the toxic verbage happening in the US and prompt people to say, ënough!¨` You are a symbol of strength and tenacity, Gabby, and we look forward to seeing you fully recovered and a voice for peace and civility. Holding you in light, a fellow Arizonan and Cornellian, Lillian Hall

I'm an art photographer and activist in Gabby's district here in Arizona. I want to share a few experiences with Gabby. She's a buddy who calls me "the butterfly photographer." This came from an incident in which I photographed dope runners ("mules") in the wilderness by the border. I wrote an article about it with the theme that I'd rather just be photographing butterflies. She had a public session on related topics later which pertained to the border, and I was a speaker. Gabby has one of my art prints in her Tucson office. Once, here in my town, she was having one of her "meet and greet" sessions with the public in front of the local Safeway. I was asking her if she still had my picture up in her office, and a vagrant stepped in and interrupted us briefly. Gabby went out of her way to be gracious and polite to the person and he wandered off.

Whether the scars that remain after this horrible event are physical or emotional, know that you have people in your lives that love you and strangers who are cheering for your recovery.

Susan, I can't begin to imagine what you are going through physically and emotionally. I admire you for helping a little girl realize a dream and the outcome has nothing to do with your noble intentions. My greatest wish for you is that you assume no blame.

Gabrielle, thank you for making us all believe in miracles. I hope you will continue to inspire us with your faith and courage.

My thoughts are with all of the victims and everyone connected who have been impacted by this.
